Nestled in the heart of Astoria’s historic downtown, Broder Strand Café is a charming Scandinavian-inspired restaurant and bar that redefines the breakfast and brunch experience along the Oregon Coast. With an inviting ambiance that perfectly balances cozy warmth and modern cleanliness, this local gem offers a culinary journey deeply rooted in Nordic tradition yet elevated with inventive twists that delight the senses.

The café’s menu is a treasure trove for breakfast aficionados, brunch lovers, and anyone seeking bold flavors done right. Signature dishes like the Eggs Benedict on Trout Cakes showcase a beautiful symphony of delicate poached eggs resting atop moist, savory trout cakes, all embraced by a subtly tangy hollandaise with a hint of mustard that lingers memorably on the palate. Customers frequently rave about this dish as a picture-perfect start to the day.

For those craving a hearty yet refined morning meal, the Mushroom Breakfast Sandwich offers a juicy, mouthwatering burst of umami and freshness, paired blissfully with artisanal bread. Equally popular are the Swedish Potato Sausage & Æbleskivers—fluffy, golden Danish pancake balls served alongside smoked sausage, creating a sweet and savory harmony that dances on the tongue. Not to be missed are the Danish Pancakes delivered with your choice of zesty lemon curd, tangy lingonberry jam, or luscious seasonal compote, each bite exploding with authentic Scandinavian charm.

The café’s drink offerings further enhance the sensory pleasure. Whether it’s their expertly crafted lattes and cappuccinos with creamy, artful foam or the refreshingly spicy Iced Coconut Chai that has led visitors to order second rounds to go, Broder Strand Café presents a complete experience. For cocktail enthusiasts, the bar’s evening menu (from 4 to 10 pm) features distinctive options like the Oh, Piccolo! Pickle Back—a complex blend of Aquavit or bourbon alongside housemade pickles that intrigue and surprise the palate.

Beyond the exceptional food and drinks, what truly sets Broder Strand Café apart is the palpable passion radiating from its staff and ownership. Many visitors have noted the genuine warmth and attentiveness of the team, ensuring every dining moment feels special and personalized. The atmosphere hums with good vibes—clean, comfortable, and buzzing just enough to feel lively without overwhelming.

As reviewer Nicole Davis perfectly puts it, it’s the “best breakfast on the Oregon Coast” with “great service, good vibes, and a clean place.” Another visitor, Ben Bache-Wiig, celebrates the café as a “wonderful breakfast experience” with “Scandinavian themed cuisine that’s way above ordinary,” highlighting the care in preparation and quality ingredients. Best breakfast on the Oregon Coast! Picture perfect poached eggs on the Trout Benedict! The Mushroom Breakfast Sandwich was mouth-watering! The Iced Coconut Chai was so tasty that we got a second one to go! Great service, good vibes, clean place!

Wonderful breakfast experience in the historic downtown of Astoria. Scandinavian themed cafe with friendly staff and delicious food that is way above ordinary. I had the Swedish hash — fingerling potatoes and peppers beautifully pan fried with smoked trout topped with two baked eggs. A side of a lovely Norwegian rye bread completed the dish. My wife had the mushroom breakfast sandwich and was delighted by the sauce which was hearty but had delicate flavors as well. The service was fantastic. Great place.

Tried this little place for dinner on a roadtrip to the US and was pleasantly surprised! Ordered sausage, meatballs, lemon biscuits with radish/pear slices, & fish salad for me and my dad and all dishes were very tasty! I heard they just recently opened the dinner part of the restaurant and can testify it is great! Presentation of the food was top tier, the owner was really passionate and kind and made all the cocktails behind the counter. Who I assume to be his wife was also really nice. The decoration of the store was artsy and I enjoyed taking photos of the store!

It was truly amazing and definitely a standout experience for us. We can’t wait to return! The talented chef behind these culinary masterpieces should be incredibly proud of their work. Huge thank you for an unforgettable meal! <3

This place is a gem for breakfast lovers! We had the Benedict, which was a classic done right—with a surprising twist: a touch of mustard that added a bold, memorable flavor. The potato pancakes were another highlight. They came topped with a fruit jam, which we weren’t expecting, but it worked beautifully and added a unique, delicious contrast. Don’t expect your typical pancakes here—these are a bit different, as you can see in the photos, but absolutely worth trying. They serve Coava coffee, and we ordered both a standard latte and a vanilla latte. Unfortunately, we requested the vanilla to be half sweet, but it tasted overly sugary, almost like they doubled the syrup instead. That was a bit of a letdown. That said, the service more than made up for it—our servers were warm, attentive, and genuinely friendly. All in all, a great little spot that’s definitely worth a visit if you're in Astoria!

Easy, unique, and quaint breakfast spot for hearty Norwegian eats. The trout hash had a great balance, and the æbleskivers were so fluffy & not too sweet!

Favorite new restaurant in Astoria! I got the half order of Finnish Oven Porridge with eggs added on and my mom got the Savory Two Egg with bacon. We split 4 of the Danish Pancakes with lemon curd and seasonal compote (blueberry). Also got 2 Rose Lemonades (on special menu). They have picnic tables outside. Perfect spot if you have a dog. I love their porridge! I could eat it every day!!! I can't believe how filling it was with just the half order. It was creamy and delicious.
